Wow. One epic Australian wedding adventure later and we still can’t believe our luck. We first met Paul + Cath at Paul’s brother Shaun’s Fiji wedding so having already gotten to know their side of the family, it felt as though we were being welcomed back into an adopted family and we were catching up with old friends. Friends who were already used to us, our sneaky camera ways(!) and were excited we were there.
I’ve been sat here writing and re-writing this for what seems like an eternity, not being able to eloquently put into words how fantastic the whole experience was. It wasn’t because the Hunter Valley is ridiculously beautiful, the weather and light was perfect or because I was lucky enough to fly in my first ever helicopter (now THAT was amazing; my face hurt from grinning so much!). It was because Paul + Cath were so open and welcoming to us. When they collected us from the airport they both greeting us with bear hugs and we spent the car journey talking non-stop about all things wedding. Because Paul took us wine-tasting and showed us around the area and Cath teased us when James accidentally called me my pet name in front of her! Because we went supermarket shopping with them and were invited to join them and their guests the next day for cricket and lunch. That’s the real reasons why their wedding will be remembered as being so special to us and why we feel so lucky we were able to be part of their wedding adventure.
Although spending extra time with a couple isn’t needed for us do a good job (don’t worry, we don’t have to go food shopping together!), James and I do our best work when we’re treated as though we’re an adopted friend – teasing and joking included! Our hope is that we photographed Paul + Cath’s day as truthfully as possible. That we captured the love they for each other, for their families and friends and hope that they will look back on their photos in years to come and smile at all the amazing moments from the day.
Paul + Cath we can’t thank you enough for choosing us.
